snakes
there was once a woman
who was seduced by a beautiful man
he had long black hair and shiny garments
she went back with him to his village
when she got there she realized
he was not a man
but a snake.
She tried to leave
but the snake people
wouldn’t let her go.
Eventually
her family came
looking for her. They said
if you want to leave
you have to walk straight out
and don’t look back for three days.
If you look back, you will fail.
So she did. I’m sure it wasn’t easy
I’m sure the snakes called to her and
probably sang pretty songs too.
But she got out of there.
She made it back home
safe and sound.
That’s how
you have to do
if you are seduced
by a snake.
